Past Projects

Materials Extraction Pilot Plant

A materials extraction start-up was in need of a partner to develop the controls for their first pilot plant.

Despite a tight timeline, Volt Controls provided valuable automation consulting and a full electrical controls design package.

This included:

  • Program architecture

  • Scratch PLC/HMI programming

  • Control panel design and installation

  • PID control for multiple liquid flow paths

  • Remote monitoring with text/email notifications to key personnel

  • Ethernet/IP device integration

  • Integration of major third-party components

  • Battery backup

  • Data-logging

  • Complete wiring of the system

  • Start-up and commissioning

FactoryTalk Optix Test Cart

A local manufacturer of capital equipment approached Volt Controls to help to program a test cart using FactoryTalk Optix, the new HMI offering from Rockwell Automation.

The test cart program showed a dashboard of all critical machine test parameters using easy-to-read virtual gauges.

Using a series of intuitive buttons, the test engineers were able to quickly change the configuration of the test cart based on the specific type of machine that they were testing.

Critical parameters were trended and logged right on the 65” TV screen located at the test station.

Industrial Wastewater Treatment System

Volt Controls was selected to perform the PLC programming, HMI programming, FAT and SAT support for an industrial wastewater treatment cell.

Utilizing Schneider Electric’s PLC and innovative HMI solution, this project was successfully completed, tested, and installed.

Fully automatic and manual operation modes were created, along with trending and logging to a USB drive.

The system also connected to the end-customer’s Kepware software for data monitoring.

Datalogger Control Panel

This custom control panel was designed and built for a local customer. It includes a data logger that takes readings from 8 flow meters and up to 32 thermocouples (including remote modules) to monitor critical lab processes. The custom stand was included due to tight space constraints and a lack of a mounting surface.

Medical Device Manufacturing Cell

Volt Controls was hired to perform the PLC programming, HMI programming, and FAT support for a novel medical device manufacturing assembly cell.

This included:

  • Program architecture

  • Scratch PLC/HMI programming based on the PackML automation standard.

  • Induction heating

  • Laser welding

  • Inspection and rejection station

  • Fanuc SCARA robot integration
